Bachelor's Thesis

Bachelor's theses at our chair deal with selected problems of business ethics and/or management accounting. These can be motivated by practical or theoretical considerations and usually falls within the research areas.

By writing a scientific paper, students demonstrate that they are able to discuss a subject-related problem independently using scientific methods.

Procedure of the bachelor's thesis at bema

The following overview of the bachelor's thesis procedure is a simplification and only applies to bema. Please also note your official study and examination regulations.

1. Central allocation procedure of the Examination Office

  • The allocation of spots for bachelor's theses is carried out via the central allocation procedure of the Examination Office.
  • You want to write your bachelor's thesis at our chair? Just indicate that in the priority list that you submit during the allocation procedure.
  • We recommend that you write a seminar paper at our chair before you write your bachelor's thesis with us. The seminar paper is written in the wintersemester. The kick-off meeting takes place early in the winter semester. The places for the seminar are also allocated via the central allocation procedure.

2. Choose a subject field and consult with your contact person at bema

  • At the bottom of this page you will find 20 subject fields. Choose one of these topics and submit your choice to by e-mail.
  • In addition to the broad topic area, please also let us know specific areas of interest.
  • The process of choosing a topic in co-operation with a co-operation with partners in companies or other organizations may differ. You can find the detailed process in the fact sheet at the bottom of this website.
  • In this mail, you can also make a one-time suggestion of what you are particularly interested in within your chosen topic area or what you would like to investigate.
  • Please write this mail at least four weeks (in the lecture-free period at least six weeks) before your desired start date, which you please also indicate in the mail.
  • On the basis of this mail, the chair will then set the topic. You will receive this subject from the Examination Office on the starting date.
  • You will then be assigned a contact person. Please discuss all further questions and details with your contact person.

3. Register the bachelor's thesis at the Examination Office

4. Collect your thesis topic at the Examination Office

  • At the agreed time, the examination office notifies you of your topic.
  • This is the start of the processing time of your bachelor's thesis.
  • The completion time is eight weeks.
  • Please note our formal requirements when writing your bachelor's thesis.

5. Halftime Colloquium

  • After about four weeks, you will present the status of your work to the chair.
  • The presentation will not be evaluated.
  • The half-time colloquium is an opportunity for detailed feedback.
  • Other students who are writing their bachelor's thesis with us are also welcome to come to the halftime colloquia.

6. Submit your thesis

  • The bachelor's thesis is submitted in two bound editions and two electronic versions to the examination office.
  • Please note the opening hours of the Examination Office.
  • You will find further details in your examination regulations.

7. Result

  • You will be notified of your grade within eight weeks.
  • You can view the evaluation report of your bachelor's thesis at the Examination Office.
  • You also have the opportunity to get further feedback in a personal conversation with your contact person at bema. Please make an appointment for this.

The bachelor's theses can be theoretical-conceptual, analytical or empirical. Bachelor's theses can also be done in conjunction with partners in practice. In doing so, problems of practical relevance are taken up and brought into the scientific context.
